Advisor Role
A club advisor plays a critical role in the success and sustainability of a student organization. As a faculty or staff member, the advisor provides guidance, support, and resources to help the club achieve its goals while ensuring it operates in alignment with campus policies.
- Provide guidance to a student club/organization and inform them of college policies, regulations, resources, funding procedures, etc., but not take full control of the club/organization.
- Provide all necessary approvals for the student club/organization needed by the Student Life Office such as, but not limited to, event request, financial expenditures, etc. (Advisor signature needed on event request forms)
- Assist students in all financial planning for the club/organization and submit the necessary forms to process checks or reimbursement for programs and events.
- Advisors are encouraged to attend as many meetings (virtual and in-person) as possible and as their position and time allows.
- For any club event that is expected to host 50 or more attendees or takes place after 4:00 PM, it is mandatory that the advisor or an approved substitute be present for the entire duration of the event until all students have departed the event.
- Advisors are to communicate to the club/organization any necessary information required by the Student Life Office, such as deadlines for budget requests, officer contact, etc.
- Advisors are to inform the Student Life Office immediately of any major problems occurring in the organization such as conflicts among officers, members, issues that may arise at an event or program, etc.
- As part of the club inquiry process, advisor emails will be linked to all club-related inquiries. Advisors are expected to respond to any inquiries or communication related to the club. If the advisor is unavailable, it is the responsibility of a club officer to respond on behalf of the advisor in a timely and professional manner.
